Wieviel Internet (v)ertrÃĪgt unsere Gesellschaft? N2 - Virtual Character Assassination - open questions from a linguistic point of view Virtual Character Assassination is a complex phenomenon with high societal relevance. In almost all publications we find that cybermobbing (which is the name for the phenomenon in the research literature) can be described as an aggressive act within the context of new media. We already know a lot about frequencies of occurrence, motivations, offender profiles, consequences and causes of cybermobbing. On the one hand, it is the aim of this article to summarize the state of research existing so far in order to detect several connecting factors from a linguistic and communication theoretical point of view. On the other hand, I would like to introduce tentative considerations concerning the interaction between emotional contents and persuasive potentials based on data mainly collected from www.isharegossip.com and social network sites.
