  abstract  = {Based on a collection of so called „candle walks“ of confirmands in the pre-liturgal phase of a church service, a recurrent phenomenon is analyzed: the touching of the church bench during the entry and exit. The analysis is carried out within the multimodal conceptual framework of “space as interactive resource”, “walking as situated practice”, and “sociotopographic implications of space”. Within this framework the touching is conceptualized as a way to recognize and display relevant aspects of the spatial setting. From the confirmands’ perspective it is a reflexive comment on dominant situational relevancies.},
