The paper is based on the idea that such a preface is an indispensable part of the dictionary meeting both laymen’s and experts’ interests which, however, cannot be achieved by one and the same text. The author pleads for integrating the HDG preface systematically into endeavours to further improve this disetionary and make it more suitable for users by separating in it instructions for laymen („Benutzungshinweise“') from information for linguists („Grundlagen“) and by rendering each of the two parts specific in its presentation of information and text type, in accordance with its function.}, language = {de} }
